Baroque Oboe

A baroque oboe made by Joel Robinson of NYC
in 1988. Unlike other period reproductions, this
is not an exact copy of an original instrument,
but rather an idealized "Saxon oboe" designed
by Steve Hammer to be representative of the
instruments played in the Leipzig/Dresden area
during Sebastian Bach's time. The instrument is
pitched at a'=415Hz, typical for many baroque
reproductions nowadays. Atypical for a soprano
baroque
oboe is the unstained boxwood finish
and the silver keys. Of the three baroque oboes
I have owned over
the last 25 years, it is by far
the best-playing.

Typical reed for the baroque oboe.
